Feints (tricks) in football

When executing tricks in soccer, timing, body control, and precision are crucial. The player should closely observe the defender to find the optimal moment for the trick. Clear body movements, the right foot, and full speed when passing the opponent are important for successfully executing the trick.

To practice tricks effectively, you should first learn them at a slow pace and then increase the speed. Partner exercises help test the tricks under realistic conditions. Training should take place in a variety of game situations to promote adaptability. Regular practice improves trick skills and increases confidence in the game.

1. Overstep

✓ Description: A classic trick to outsmart a defender.
✓ Execution: The player lifts one foot as if about to play the ball, leaving the ball in place for a moment. Then the other foot quickly moves around the ball, causing the player to dribble in the opposite direction. It's important to move the body in such a way that it appears as if the player is actually moving in the direction of the stepover.

2. Double stepover

✓ Description: A variation of the stepover to further confuse the defender.
✓ Execution: The player performs two consecutive stepovers, first crossing the ball with one foot and then doing the same with the other foot. The player should quickly change direction and dribble in the opposite direction. The movement should be fluid and quick so as not to alert the defender.

3. Scissors

✓ Description: A quick movement to change the ball and play off the defender.
✓ Execution: The player stands in front of the ball and jumps over it with one leg, while the other leg kicks the ball in the opposite direction. This movement should be dynamic and fluid, with the player adjusting their stride length so that the ball is not too far from the body.

4. Rainbow

✓ Description: An acrobatic trick to lift the ball over a defender.
✓ Execution: The player crouches down, pulls the ball back with one foot, and then lifts it over the defender's head with the other foot. For this trick, it's important to choose the right timing and maintain the correct posture to maintain balance during the movement.

5. Drag Back

✓ Description: A simple but effective trick to outsmart the defender.
✓ Execution: The player pulls the ball back with the sole of their foot while simultaneously moving in the opposite direction. This allows the player to leave the defender behind. The player should be careful to keep the ball close to their body to maintain control.

6. Body Feint

✓ Description: Fakes a movement to confuse the defender.
✓ Execution: The player leans his upper body in one direction while kicking the ball in the opposite direction. It's important to make the body movement convincing so the defender believes the feint.

7. Step-back (reset foot)

✓ Description: A simple trick to initiate a change of direction.
✓ Execution: The player dribbles toward the defender, then pulls back one foot and plays the ball backward with the sole of the ball. Immediately afterward, the player sprints in the opposite direction. The movement should be quick and fluid to catch the defender off guard.

8. Spin Move

✓ Description: An elegant 360-degree turn to outsmart the defender.
✓ Execution: The player dribbles toward the defender and then spins with the ball. The player should keep the ball close to their feet to outsmart the defender and sprint in the new direction.

9. V-Cut

✓ Description: A quick change of direction in the shape of a “V”.
✓ Execution: The player dribbles in one direction, stops abruptly, pulls the ball in the other direction with one foot, and sprints quickly. The key is speed and sudden movements to deceive the defender.

10. Fake Shot

✓ Description: Fakes a shot to deceive the defender.
✓ Execution: The player raises their standing leg as if about to shoot, then quickly pulls the ball back with the other foot. The body movement should appear as if the player is actually about to take a shot, in order to confuse the defender.

11. Fake Pass

✓ Description: Fakes a pass to outwit the defender.
✓ Execution: The player lifts their standing leg as if passing, but leaves the ball in place and pulls it back with their other foot. The feint should be so convincing that it misleads the defender.

12. Zidane protection

✓ Description: Body movement to protect the ball.

✓ Execution: The player rotates with the ball while keeping it close to his body. The upper body is tilted slightly to the side to deceive the defender and protect the ball from him, preventing him from gaining access.

13. Shoulder Drop

✓ Description: Fakes a movement with the shoulder.
✓ Execution: The player tilts their upper body and raises their shoulder in one direction to deceive the defender. At the same time, they guide the ball in the opposite direction with their other foot to get past the defender.

14. Chop

✓ Description: A quick cut with the inside or outside of the foot.
✓ Execution: The player dribbles toward the defender and abruptly pulls the ball sideways with one foot. The other foot is used to sharply cut the ball sideways, allowing the player to turn in the opposite direction.

15. No-Look Pass

✓ Description: Fakes the pass without looking at the defender.
✓ Execution: The player looks over his shoulder or in another direction, as if about to pass the ball to a teammate. At that moment, however, he passes the ball in the opposite direction to surprise the defender and gain space.

16. Pass and Go

✓ Description: A clever trick where the player passes the ball past the defender and then sprints in the opposite direction to pick it up again behind the defender.
✓ Execution: The player dribbles toward the defender and plays the ball past the defender with a short, precise pass (e.g., to the right). As the ball passes the defender, they immediately sprint in the opposite direction (e.g., to the left) and run closely past the defender, retrieving the ball while running. This technique requires good timing and anticipation skills to effectively outmaneuver the defender.

17. Juggle and Flick

✓ Description: Juggles the ball and flicks it over the defender.

✓ Description: A quick switch from left to right to outsmart the defender.
✓ Execution: The player pulls the ball in one direction with the sole of the foot, causing the defender to react. The next second, the player quickly dribbles in the opposite direction with the other foot to get past him.

19. Outside-Inside

✓ Description: Fakes a move outwards and then quickly pulls the ball inwards. ✓ Execution: The player dribbles toward the defender and initially pulls the ball outwards briefly with the outside of the foot. Then immediately follows a movement with the inside of the same foot to quickly pull the ball back inwards and dribble in the opposite direction.

20. Nutmeg

✓ Description: The ball is played between the defender's legs.

✓ Execution: The player dribbles directly toward the defender and plays the ball between his legs. While the defender turns, the player takes the opportunity to pass the defender.

21. Hook

✓ Description: A clever move to deceive the defender.
